Like many professionals in the technology industry, Kishmish is constantly facing the challenge of succinctly describing what we do to the laymen. This challenge is derived from the simple reality that IT eventually becomes complicated, and that we provide our expertise in two different, yet interrelated areas; Network Services and Web Services. This is our Yin Yang.
For those new to the concept of Yin Yang, it stems from the Chinese philosophy around the two great opposite yet complementary forces at work and their resulting Chi, the energy inherent in all things that govern the universe. For my purposes today, Wikipedia (the 100% guaranteed to be accurate source for all information) summarizes Yin Yang as “the concept used to describe how polar or seemingly contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world, and how they give rise to each other in turn.”
Over the years Kishmish has gained a perspective around small to medium business IT needs and developed offerings to match. As one would expect in the ever evolving world of technology there is an equally rapid creation of terminologies and acronyms. However, one that is here to stay is IT. To Kishmish, Information Technology is loosely understood and appreciated as the tools (hardware and software) used to collect, store, manage and present data (knowledge) in a manner consistent with business goals.
This interpretation has resulted in our own Yin Yang of Network Services and Web Services, which together comprise our “IT Chi.” There are many ways to break down IT and its associated components, we know what we do and we do it well. At times this has created confusion for customers where they are uncertain of how Kishmish can best help them. What it is important to realize is that we have two separate staffs, including individuals who have a wealth of knowledge in their respective realm as well as an appreciation for IT as a whole. It would be far easier to simply recognize that a typical Network Service customer is a skilled IT manager or business with a serious problem. They are less interested in looking at our social media accomplishments or discuss use of ad words can help bring them more business. The same is true for our typical Web Service customer, where they care about brand alignment with online goals and the quality of an online experience. They are less interested in virtualization or discussing ESX server configurations.
So how does this relate to our Yin Yang? That is our daily challenge that only gets answered when you interact with someone from Kishmish. We have no intention of trying to be everything to everyone. However, we have found that in the world of IT we have an informed perspective of most areas. If we lack the skills or technical acumen to address an issue, we almost always know someone who does and make a recommendation. How does this relate our Yin Yang? Simple, we believe in providing the best solution for our customers. Often these solutions require an appreciation of the whole as well as an understanding of the parts. That is the simple philosophy we subscribe to.
